Solana is a unique proof-of-stake L1 chain, with sub-second block times, smart contracts, a DEX, AMMs and many great NFT projects. Solana has a theoretical throughput of 710,000tps on a 1Gbps network. The main innovation is the synchronization of nodes using a verifiable delay function to measure the passage of time in an untrusted way. Another notable design feature is the ability of the virtual machine to parallel process non-overlapping state. There are other architectural novelties; no mempool for example. The result of these design decision, as it matters to users and developers, is incredibly fast and cheap transactions for uncontended state.
Do you want to know more? We've been with Solana from the beginning, from the Dry-Run before TDS. It's easily the best L1 out there. Our validator runs on bare-metal in our cage at a datacentre in London. That means we are not limited to a particular server provider's offering. If Solana moves toward making heavier use of GPUs, we can build that. If it needs a 10Gbps network, we can do that. For security we do the normal stuff you'd expect; firewall, no password logins, Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring.
Solana spawned a large number of projects, one of which was Wormhole, the purpose being to connect the chain to the rest of the crypto universe, we are also involved in that project.
For posterity here are some of the earlier bits and pieces we did around Solana; first ever solana dapp tutorial, but these days you really should use Anchor as the basis for your dapp. Explanation and modified stake-o-matic. Code for calculating stake distribution. Some code for GPU vanity address grinding although it's not as effective as I hoped, and it's very finickity about what GPU you use. A stake breakdown calculation by validator and delegator. Code to upload images to the Solana blockchain.
